330 applications accepted for the Corporation’s quarters; 8 articles rejected

Review of applications filed through Friday was resumed and 330 documents were found to be in order and accepted, while eight applications were rejected by officials here on Saturday.

The Dindigul Corporation has 48 wards and apart from the major political parties, independents had also filed documents.

As the review was underway, a verbal altercation between an independent candidate identified as Raja and DMK’s Siddique, both vying for Ward 18, broke out. After the situation appeared to be headed for a free-for-all, some senior officers stepped in and told them both to submit their petitions.

While the Independent Candidate claimed that the DMK Candidate did not mention the criminal offenses on his behalf in the affidavit, the DMK Candidate denied the allegation and said the Independent Candidate allegedly asked him for money.

Road blockade in Oddanchatram

After news spread that Oddanchatram Municipal Office officials had rejected the nominations of six AIADMK candidates from the 18 wards, the cadres led by AIADMK Municipal Secretary Natarajan resorted to an agitation blockade on the Dindigul-Palani road.

Upon information, ADSP Lavanya and his team arrived and interviewed the agitators and cleared the way for vehicle traffic. They also said that the AIADMK men’s complaint would be investigated by the tax authorities as a result of which they dispersed.

Visit of a poll watcher

State Election Commission has appointed poll watcher for Dindigul District Jacintha visited the Corporation office on Saturday.

Accompanied by District Election Officer and Collector S. Visakan, Commissioner Sivasubramanian and other officers, the poll watcher said that in accordance with SEC guidelines, polling places must adhere to guidelines issued regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.

Stations should be equipped with CCTV cameras, webcasting and micro-watchers depending on the profile. Likewise, COVID-19 patients would also have an exclusive time to vote and she listened to the arrangements made for them.
