How to name your business, organization

With low unemployment and a shrinking workforce, employers in the Louisville area need to work harder to recruit and retain employees.

Maybe that means bonuses, promotions, or something as simple as an on-site coffee shop.

Either way, we want to know what employers are doing right. That’s why The Courier Journal is partnering with Energage for a second consecutive year in the Top Workplaces program, which recognizes local businesses and agencies that go above and beyond.

The program is open to any organization — public, private, nonprofit, or government — with 50 or more employees in five counties in Kentucky and three counties in southern Indiana. In Kentucky, counties include Jefferson, Oldham, Bullitt, Shelby, and Spencer; in Indiana, it’s Clark, Floyd and Harrison.

Entries, which are accepted until the May 13 deadline, can come from an employee or from someone outside the organization.

Last year, 22 area businesses were recognized as winners after employees completed short surveys emailed to them by Energage. Like last year, a special section and event will be offered this fall to celebrate the stars.

Eric Rubino, CEO of Energage, calls earning a Top Workplaces award a “badge of honor” for organizations because the survey data comes from workers. Last year, the company surveyed more than 2 million employees in more than 8,000 organizations.

“It authentically comes from your employees,” Rubino said. “It’s something you should be proud of. In today’s job market, it’s all about attracting and retaining the right talent.

Earning recognition also gives workers credit, raises the profile of the organization, and lets potential employees see that the workplace stands out from its peers.

Nominations are being taken now at www.courier-journal.com/nominate or by calling 502-416-0634.

But don’t wait: the only way to be sure that your organization will be considered is to participate before the May 13 deadline.
