By Aaron Humes: Representatives of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) faced the press today in Belize City to discuss the long-term arrangement it has reached with the government as part of a strategic plan to reduce regional and international policy with the support of the US government.
CEO Alice Albright reiterated that following MCC’s analysis of the constraints to economic growth, she will support the government in identifying and implementing projects specifically targeting these constraints.
The specific funds will be developed based on the objectives identified by the government, but the CEO of the Ministry of Economic Development, Dr Osmond Martinez, highlighted a few: access to education, access to finance for micro-small and medium-sized entrepreneurs (MSMEs) and the ease of doing business in Belize.
As MCC completes its analysis and consultation with a wide range of stakeholders, the government has secured $1.5 million for initial administrative costs and hiring.
More on that later.
