Polymerupdate News – DIC Corporation acquires the Milanese company Sapici, to strengthen its presence in Europe

Tokyo-based chemicals company DIC Corporation has acquired 100% of the shares of Italian adhesive and polymer manufacturer Sapici SpA and its holding company Finape Srl for an undisclosed amount.

The acquisition of the Italian company was completed through the 100% subsidiary of DIC Corporation, Sun Chemical Group SpA, based in Milan, on November 12, 2021. The two companies had signed a definitive agreement which made it possible to make the deal.

With this acquisition, DIC Corporation seeks to strengthen its position and also increase its market share in Europe. Neither DIC nor Sapici have disclosed their current market share, either in Europe or globally. The acquisition of Sapici SpA by DIC Corporation will provide the Japanese chemical company with access to the production technologies of Sapici SpA and give the DIC Group a competitive advantage in Europe where demand for ultra-low monomer polyisocyanate (ULM) is very high.

Industry sources estimate that the global adhesives and sealants market will grow with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5% over the next seven years to reach $ 87.5 billion by 2028, from $ 63 billion current in 2021. The adhesives segment contributes most of the overall industry size with a small portion going to sealants.

Reports indicate that adhesives markets continue to expand around the world and that its growth is accelerating in Europe and the Americas. These two regions, Europe and the Americas, account for almost half of the global adhesives market. These two markets should continue their growth dynamic, in particular for environmentally friendly products, in a context of growing concern for environmental impact and safety.

Meanwhile, DIC Group continuously strives to expand its product portfolio and strengthen its production capabilities, as well as expand the reach of this business through joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions and other ways. In the future, the DIC Group will continue to expand its product portfolio organically.

DIC Group said in a statement that the company will continue to work to strengthen and broaden the foundation of its packaging solutions business with the aim of accelerating its growth in the future.

However, the impact of the coronavirus pandemic (Covid) has been unprecedented and staggering, with the industry reporting a 7.1% contraction in 2020. But, its demand rebounded in 2021 with the resumption of l global economy and markets returning to the pre-pandemic level. The global adhesives market is expected to grow exponentially due to its application in building and construction industry.

Their use has grown rapidly with the introduction of high performance polymers and formulations. They are considered to be the most important materials in construction activities, and the market is likely to grow with the adoption of new technologies and design techniques.
