Trichy Corporation will create wellness centers | News from Trichy

TRICHY: In view of the increase in the urban population and the increased use of the 18 urban primary health centers (UPHCs) after the outbreak of the pandemic, Trichy Corporation has identified sites to establish 36 health and wellness centers. be (HWC) throughout the city.
The local body will construct additional infrastructure at a cost of Rs 9 crore in the available spaces near the UPHCs to serve as response locations and provide extensive health services including yoga training.
Each of the 18 UPHCs will have two HWCs located within a two kilometer radius to provide first-level care for emergencies and trauma. The parent UPHC Medical Adviser will monitor the performance of both HWCs in their jurisdiction.
Locations were chosen based on population density and available space. Given that a portion of families living below the poverty line (BPL) need medicines, screening for non-communicable diseases and maternal and child health services are highly dependent on CUPs, the new health centers and will help them benefit from free services near their residence.
“The proposed health and wellness center will alleviate the burden of 18 UPHCs. Now part of the people residing near the wellness center will get the services there instead of reaching the UPHCs,” said a company health officer. As the demand for services available at UPHCs has increased over the past 22 months, officials said additional infrastructure is needed. The infrastructure will be built with funding from the National Urban Health Mission and the 15th Finance Commission.
In addition to providing medication and facilitating regular services for non-communicable diseases and pregnancy, the 36 HWCs will provide oral, eye and ENT care. Official sources said mental health development and diagnostic services could also be provided at the proposed centers and new labs have also been considered. Already, as the local urban body lacks medical and paramedic staff, the civic body said new doctors and support staff for the proposed HWCs will be recruited. “Construction works will start soon and simultaneously we will recruit the necessary manpower to operate the HWCs,” said a senior official of the Trichy company.
